Chuck E. Cheese

Saturday's weather was dismal, so after Kenly woke up from her nap, we headed into Asheville to play at Chuck E. Cheese. Kenly even got to hug the big guy and blow him a kiss or two. She loved playing a water gun/fair style game, and she loved riding all the cars.

Adam and I loved getting in the sketch booth. After all, the pictures only cost 25 cents. These are our sketches...preserved forever.

Parkway Picnic

As part of Adam's birthday month celebration, we took a picnic to the Blue Ridge Parkway to catch a sunset. Due to bad weather we could only access one overlook, so we decided to make it work. We ate a yummy Hawg Wild barbecue dinner and then Kenly was off to the races. She ran all over the parking lot.

Here is a unique family photo--Kenly is on Adam's shoulders and they are making a huge K. Then there is me and our lovely pooch. I love shadow portraits.
After it got chilly, we hopped in the back of my car to watch the sunset.
Never fear, Chance is never far from the action.

I would love to say that the sunset was truly this vibrant, but sadly no. Lightroom can do wonders for a dull sunset picture.

We always enjoy our picnic on the parkway. Adam and I have had this tradition for years. Kenly started joining us right away. She went on her first parkway picnic when she was only two months old.

More HandsOn

Another one of Kenly's favorite exhibits at HandsOn is the bubble maker. We never made a successful bubble, but we had a blast trying. We made several bubble waves and several near bubbles, but we never sent a huge bubble flying around the room. I think it's impossible.

I wish we had this machine on a smaller scale at our house. I don't know where I'd keep it, but it sure would be fun.

HandsOn

Kenly and I recently discovered HandsOn, a children's museum in downtown Hendersonville. The museum has a full grocery store, a crafting area, a post office, and tons more for the kids to explore. We met our friends there an a rainy day expecting to be underwhelmed, and we visited the museum the very next Saturday and bought an annual pass. Kenly is enamored.

She loved racing the car down the Lego Raceway.
I had to beg her to go explore more of the building after she spent at least 35 minutes playing at the rice table. I really need to make the child a large sensory bin that she can play in for hours. It would make cooking dinner so much easier.

There is a hand washing station that is kid friendly. I think I saw her wash her hands at least 12 time during our three hour visit.
She enjoyed playing with the pendulum.
She baked an apple pie in the bakery.

She even experimented with balls and chutes.
One of her favorite places to hang out is in the grocery store. She also likes making delicious meals at the cafe.

She learned a little about skeletons by examining the x-rays of several types of critters.

She's making me a yummy concoction at the cafe.

I love watching my budding artist create a masterpiece.
She spent a good deal of time in the Baby Place rocking the babies while listing to lullabies from around the world.

The girl loves speed...must me her Papa coming out in her.

Funny Face

Adam one upped me by teaching Kenly a new silly face. Little did he know I'm totally freaked out by this one. She loves to make my stomach turn by showing me the inside of her eyelids.

This one is funny and cute. The other one looks like something out of a horror movie.

Watercolor Recipe

I was perusing a few new blogs the other day when I happened upon Pocketful of Posies and this nifty watercolor paint recipe. The detail for making the paint can be found there, but here is a picture of all the ingredients. (Warning: Make sure your Styrofoam egg carton is structurally sound before adding your ingredients. We made quite a mess on the kitchen counter because we didn't check for holes. Live and learn.)

Kenly loved watching the white vinegar and baking soda put on a show.
This is the paint base just before we added the food coloring.
I loved how the food coloring reacted with the paint base.
We made enough for eight different colors.
The paint can be used right after it is mixed, but it can also dry for a few days. We opted to let the colors dry. About 72 hours later we decided to try out our creation.
Who is unhappy with Mommy? I get this look with frequency these days.

I loved the rich color the paints produced.
Overall I was very pleased with the paints we made. I discovered that the colors mute as they dry, and the paper takes on a chalky texture. I'm not sure if these paint will wash out of clothing either. I'd suggest a smock or messy clothes as food coloring can be a staining nightmare.
