Thankful

Today I'm thankful. I'm counting my blessings and naming them one by one. I am SO blessed. I'm really thankful for these two...Adam and Kenly, you guys are the answers to my prayers.

...I'm also thankful for a loving, forgiving God who blesses me on a daily basis.

Don't forget my Mama and Daddy who love me and my little family more than life itself.

Travis, a brother who cracks me up with his quick wit and who has always amazed me with his steadfast loyalty.

Carrie, a sister-in-law that I would have hand picked to be my brother's wife and my friend.

The Brands--they love me, my cooking, and my precious daughter and amazing husband. Mops, Pops, Jason, and Paula, thanks for taking me just as I am.

I'm blessed to have a home, food, and good health.

Looking at the spread we ate today, my heart overflowed with gratitude. So many go without. I loved being able to express my love and gratitude in such a tangible way.

I'm just thankful and joyful, even when "happy" is sometimes fleeting. I KNOW I've got it good, and today I'm saying THANK YOU to the ONE who provides.

Why do I love Adam?

Because he is wonderful. He is one of the most thoughtful, considerate, generous people I know, and I am BLESSED beyond compare to be married to him. When he's up and walking the dog, he frequently records little songs/messages for me and for Kenly. Kenly demands to listen to Da Da all day. She'll point to my phone and say Da Da. Since "The Wheels on the Bus" is currently one of her favorites, Adam recorder her a message early this week and made Kenly's day. Don't forget "I see the Moon." These videos are saved so that I can get Kenly out of a funk. A song from Da Da almost always does the trick.

Yesterday Adam was off because of Veterans Day. We spent the morning together after he let me sleep in on his day off. He then informed me that I had a day of pampering in store. He booked a pedicure and an hour massage for me at Friends Spa. Talk about heaven. So, I got to relax while he did my job for the day. All I can say is, "What did I do to deserve this queenly treatment?" I am truly blessed to be married to THE love of my life.

Camping is FUN!

If you can ignore my incessant, obnoxious babbling, these are really cute videos from this weekend.

Table Rock--First Solo Camping Trip

It is official. The Brand Family survived their first solo camping trip. Adam, Kenly, Chance and I have all been camping twice together, but we've always had extra hands around to help. We did it all by ourselves this weekend. Don't worry Nana and Papa. We still want to camp with you guys for years to come, but WE DID IT! Better yet, we did it WITH NO MAJOR INJURY. What a confidence boost for the new parents. Think of all the dangers that lurk in the great outdoors--fires, poisonous plants/berries, stinging insects that get testy in the fall, frostbite, diesel trucks. Okay, maybe diesel trucks are only found in the "wild" near campgrounds, but still.

Friday proved to be a challenge. Without going into all the gory details, lets just say that we nearly packed up and came home. Okay, maybe some detail are in order. We survived...

...an adventure in backing at the gas station in order to fill up truck and to put air in the tires. Papa, aren't you proud of us? We remembered. Adam did awesome maneuvering all around the gas station in peak Friday traffic I might add.

...a stupid bad Florida drive who almost caused an accident not once, but twice.

...a screaming baby who wanted to be there NOW.

...setting up our pop-up for the first time in the DARK with a screaming baby.

...a double bed slide that didn't function properly.

...a disaster with the "third" wheel on the trailer.

...a dead bat smushed in the door of the camper.

...a tired, hungry baby who didn't understand that in order for her to go to bed and eat in a timely manner, Mommy could not hold her. She had to set up the camper and find the food. Can you picture the tears and the wails? I can still hear them.

...wet, rotting pine wood that refused to catch on fire so we could have warmth and a "rustic" cooking source.

...a seriously slanted campsite. If you have a camper, you'll understand this challenge.

When it was all said and done, we put the baby to bed and sat around a smoking fire ring to eat cold hot dogs in buns. We did heat the beans up on the stove, but we were too hungry to wait on the hot dogs. We kept asking, "Why did we want to do this again?"

Then the sun rose on Saturday morning, and our stormy start was almost seared from our memory.

We had fun bundling up in hats and mittens until the 30 degree weather warmed to a balmy 65.
We carved a pumpkin in honor of Bouncer and Timber. Kenly loved trying to figure out how the pumpkin magically transformed during her nap.
We all tried to catch leaves, and EVERYONE was successful. Even Kenly....(see the leaf in her hood?) We all made fall wishes and sent our friends on their way. Chance even caught a few leaves, much to his dismay.
Leaf catching should be an Olympic sport. Points should be awarded for style and difficulty.
We did a lot of hugging and relaxing in the hammock.

We ate some Smores...or maybe five or six Smores. Kenly decided she'd just have chocolate, thank you very much.
We found treasures of all kinds. We got so dirty we all turned a mild shade of gray.
We enjoyed our home away from home that Papa and Nana so lovingly restored.
We ate yummy camping food. Silver turtles and BIG breakfasts complete with Little Smokies.
In the end, it was ALL worth it. I'd endure a thousand Friday nights, just for the joy that comes in the morning.

Falling Leaves

Believe it or not, this sea of leaves was once our driveway. Last week Adam went outside to part the sea with the leaf blower. Okay, parting the sea is a little dramatic, but hey, it's my blog. Kenly loved watching the leaves dance as they made their way to their new home. She ran through the leaves, tossed rocks into the leaves, and frolicked in the huge pile her Daddy made for her.

Her eyes twinkled and she squealed with delight. She loved every second. In fact, she arched her back and cried when I told her we had to go upstairs to get dinner ready. What we see as back-breaking drudgery, Kenly sees as a never ending playground. It's nice to see the world through her eyes and to take a few minutes to play in the leaves with our princess. Leaf removal has never been more fun.

I know this picture is blurry, but I love the motion captured in the picture. She was running through the sea of leaves.
Leaves and a rock--Who could ask for more?

Simple Pleasures

Oh the simple joys of a care package from The Great Pumpkin (AKA Nana and Papa). Kenly loves to explore new clothes and say, "Ooooh." I think she's going to like clothes, shoes, purses...and all things shopping. Look out Daddy.

Don't forget about the fun of spending a little quality time in a "bok."
Or taking a little time to watch some LaLa and to be a complete couch potato.
Oh the joy of an occasional TV coma so that Mommy can get a shower. Believe it or not, she never moves.
Cooking with Daddy is a great simple pleasure. Kenly loves being a helper in any way that she can. Does that mean she inherited her parents' tendency to try and please?
I love watching Kenly enjoy the simple pleasure, the finest things in life. Perspective is handed to me daily simply by watching my 14 month old princess.

Wordless Wednesday--Snuggles

Nothing like some snuggles with Daddy and Benny Bunny while watching LaLa (AKA Veggie Tales Silly Songs).

Arts and Crafts

When I went to MOPS last month, we did a craft that I thought was really cute. You should know that I am not crafty. I sometimes have a cool idea, but arts and crafts are not my forte. We made these adorable tea light candles using only mod podge, construction paper, orange crepe paper, and baby food jars. I loved how the pumpkins turned out, and next year Kenly and I will add a Frankenstein and a Mummy to our collection. This time I'll let her do most of the work. It will be a stick fun mess.

Kenly is beginning to understand the joy of coloring on paper or on any stationary object, namely the coffee table. I, for one, am so happy she is learning to love coloring. I think the world's problems could be solved with a big box of Crayolas and a jumbo coloring book. Anyways, I digress. She has also learned to love stickers. Nana and Papa sent her two sets of stickers in a care package and she is "stuck" on stickers now. I have to spell the word if I'm talking about them and am not prepared to sit down and watch her handwork. The other day we got out some paper, her crayons, and some Halloween stickers, and we created Daddy a masterpiece. He loves it so much, it is hanging on the wall on his side of the bed. And to think...some people pay loads of money for art.

Kenly is slowly teaching me to let go of my perfectionism. For instance, the first time she stacked stickers on top of each other, I fixed it. I showed her how to spread them out all over the page. She shot me a look that said, "I see you've gone crazy. That is not how to do it at all." So, I stepped back and let her have creative license. And I must say, her art is so much better than anything I could have done myself. The part of me that cringes because she stacked 10 stickers one-on-top-of-the-other had to let go and loosen up, and I so much better for it.
Look at this masterpiece. Right now she lets me help with words and with a picture here or there, but before long, she'll be saying, "No...Me do it," and I'll just have to watch and let her go and stop being a backseat driver artist.

Family Resemblance?

People always ask us, "Who do you think Kenly looks like?" We shrug our shoulder and say, "We don't have a clue." Or we just say, "Kenly." What do you think? This is a picture of me when I was little. I was bald until I was 10, so you'll have to imagine hair. Okay, maybe I grew some hair at 3.
Here is Mrs. Brand at two years old.
Here's me again....bald as an onion, but smiling and happy.
Here's Adam chilling in a chair as a small boy.
I don't have pictures of the whole family yet....I'm working on it. BUT....
Can you help us come up with an answer to the question once and for all?
